Job Requirements
Summary: This position supports ILSS activities and priorities by sharing their lived experience with ILP-aged youth and
supporting staff.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma/GED, Associate or Bachelor’s degree desired.
Licensure: Valid Alabama driver license and auto insurance minimum liability 100/300.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: The Youth Consultant will be a person with lived experience in the foster
care system in Alabama. Excellent oral and written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills; Ability to
relate to and work well with others; Excellent time-management skills with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple
projects and meet deadlines; Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel. Demonstrate cultural
proficiency and to learn and work within an agency culture of trauma informed care.
Certification: Bi-annual TB skin test/medical report.
Other Requirements: Reliable personal transportation for frequent travel statewide. Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Essential Functions of Position
1. Assist with all ILSS program components by applying lived experience with foster care in Alabama.
2. Provide training to ILSS staff and youth through regular visits to Transitional Living Programs (TLPs), at camps,
at Regional meetings and as needed.
3. Participate in ISP and Transition Planning as requested.
4. Promote NYTD, ETVP and Fostering Hope programs among youth and workers.
5. Consult with ILSS staff and DHR ILP staff as needed.
6. Provide guidance and support to youth on basic life skills development and other topics that are vital to IL youth
achieving independence.
