Highlighting Adoption & Foster Care: Life Beyond the Launch

Are you a child welfare professional, foster or adoptive parent, social worker, or counselor dedicated to improving the lives of Alabama’s foster and adopted children? If so, the 19th Annual Permanency Conference, hosted by Alabama Pre/Post Adoption Connections (APAC) in collaboration with the Alabama Department of Human Resources, is an event you do not want to miss, in fact you’ll want to tell a friend and share this experience together!

APAC’s transformative three-day training event is designed to equip professionals and caregivers with essential knowledge, tools, and strategies to better serve children and families across Alabama. With expert-led workshops, networking opportunities, and even moments of relaxation, this conference is more than just professional development, this is your chance to be refreshed, re-energized, and inspired.

Why Should You Attend APAC’s Permanency Conference?

There are several reasons why you should spend a few days with us at the beautiful Marriott Birmingham hotel for this conference, but here are our top five:

  • Engaging Keynote Speakers: This year’s conference features an unforgettable keynote from Gaelin Elmore, a former NFL player, nationally recognized speaker, and foster care advocate. His session, “Be the Difference: Belonging is the Support We Need”, will challenge and empower attendees to rethink how they support youth in care. Gaelin’s lived experience in foster care is exactly the perspective we need to frame this event. Creating better environments for children begins by listening to those who have walked that path.
  • Practical, Evidence-Based Workshops: Topics include trauma-informed care, legal processes in adoption, cultural competency, education advocacy, and more. Gain insights from national and local experts such as noted author and psychotherapist Kaytee Gillis, Dr. Rachel Swope, and Sue Badeau to enhance your confidence and effectiveness in your work.
  • Earn CEUs: Attendees can earn 13 contact hours (some of which are also NBCC approved) for social workers and counselors, including clinical hours, ethics hours, and DSM training.
  • Self-Care & Renewal: Your role is critical, and your well-being matters! Enjoy professional massages, recreational sessions, and a relaxed setting designed for personal reflection, connection, and renewal.
  • Networking & Community: Connect with professionals, caregivers, and child welfare advocates from across all 67 counties in Alabama. Share experiences, exchange best practices, and build a stronger support network.
